Dr Paul Charlson
FRCGP DPD DRCOG DOCCMED FBCAM
Dr Paul says “Acne advice and treatment is important. You do not need to suffer! Acne scaring is a result of untreated acne and formation can be unpredictable.
At Intoskin we see many acne sufferers who do not have an effective treatment plan and who benefit from a private consultation with me.
Therapies for acne include skin washes, peels, specialist creams, antibiotics and isotreninoin. Usually these are used in combination as acne responds best when tackled from different points in the acne cascade. Acne scarring can be diminished by a combination of Micro needling, Cross TCA, PRP treatment, filler treatment, subcision”

Acne scar result from acne lesion inflammation. Some people scar more easily and the scar can take two year to develop from the original spot.
Acne is a common skin condition which typically begins in teenagers and causes significant embarrassment and distress. Although associated with teenagers, acne, is actually a condition of adults with many adults suffering into their thirties. In fact, it is not uncommon for sufferers to develop acne in their thirties for the first time. It is particularly common in women and called androgen sensitive acne.
Scarring is an unfortunate consequence for those suffering from acne and is distressing. It is difficult to predict who will scar and when. Scar treatment can be for marks and pigmentation left after recent acne often called post inflammatory hyperpigmentation which is not permanent or actual dermal scarring causing indentations. These come in three varieties boxcar scarring, ice pick scarring and rolled scarring they are a result of tethering of the skin to the lower dermal layer. Whilst challenging acne scars can be treated. Dr Charlson treats acne in his NHS dermatology clinics and understands the psychological impact acne and acne scarring may cause.
